The backbone of every block structure
In concrete block construction, the tie beam (also called a bond beam) runs around the top of the walls and connects them into one rigid ring. It carries the roof trusses, holds the straps that anchor the roof and ties into the vertical steel that runs down through the block cells to the foundation.
We form tie beams with shoring where needed, place the reinforcing steel and truss anchors called for in the plans, coordinate the inspection and pour. On additions we connect the new beam to the existing structure as detailed by the engineer.

Tie Beams: common questions
What is the difference between a tie beam and a lintel?
A lintel spans a single opening, like a window or a door. The tie beam runs continuously around the top of the walls. In many block homes the lintels and the tie beam are formed and poured together.
Can you pour a tie beam on an addition connected to my house?
Yes. We connect the new beam to the existing structure as shown on the engineered plans.
Do you build the block walls too?
Yes. Most of our tie beams sit on block walls we laid ourselves, so the steel and the cells line up from the start.

Ready to build it right the first time?
Stop patching cracked slabs, sinking pavers and failing stucco. Work with a local crew that shows up on time, builds to code and stands behind the result.
